Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre – Update
Pontllnfraith Leisure Centre

We are aware of ongoing social media activity relating to the future of the site. This is the council’s current position statement:

Cllr Chris Morgan, CCBC Cabinet Member for Leisure said, “The council is currently liaising with ABUHB to understand their requirements for the use of Pontllanfraith leisure centre over the coming months. We have relocated services that were offered from the building prior to the covid pandemic to allow the building to be utilised as a vaccination centre. Leisure services have continued to operate over this time, albeit at different locations and the 3G pitch has remained in operation at the site.

We remain committed to supporting our Health colleagues with the delivery of the vaccination programme and associated services they continue to offer from the building. Upon conclusion of this essential health programme, the future of the facility will be formally considered.  The decision-making process will include wide ranging public consultation and engagement before any decision is made.”

“We are aware of recent social media activity referring to the closure of Pontllanfraith and Cefn Fforest Leisure Centres. I am keen to clarify that the future of the Cefn Fforest site is not under consideration at present. However, we intend to undertake a mid-term review of our 10-year Sport and Active Recreation Strategy, which will include a review of all our facilities across the county borough to ensure we are providing modern, fit for purpose provision which meets the evolving needs of our communities, whilst remaining sustainable financially. The mid-term review of the strategy will be considered through our formal decision making processes over the next few months and further updates will be provided at that time.”
