Spring Clean Cymru is back!
Posted on : 14 Mar 2023
People in Caerphilly and across Wales are being encouraged to help protect the environment and join Spring Clean Cymru 2023, showing that even small acts on your doorstep make a big difference.
Caerphilly County Borough Council is working with Keep Wales Tidy to support Spring Clean Cymru. Together they are calling on individuals, households and schools to clean-up the streets, parks or beaches on their doorstep between 17th March and 2nd April.
To mark the event Caerphilly County Borough Council will be hosting a Community Clean Up in Llanbradach on 17th March. Volunteers will work alongside the Community Cleansing Team to help tackle litter in the surrounding area. All equipment will be provided, but suitable footwear is necessary.
The team will be meeting near the play park at the end of
Wingfield Works Lane, CF83 3RW at 10:30am on Friday 17th March.
Spring Clean Cymru, which is part of Caru Cymru – the biggest ever initiative to eradicate litter and waste - has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.
Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive Owen Derbyshire said: “Our message this year is simple: even one bag can make a big difference. Whether you choose to clean up your own neighbourhood, your favourite beach, park or beauty spot - every piece of litter removed from the natural environment matters.
“Litter picking is also a fun, free activity that can benefit your health, wellbeing, and sense of pride in your community. So go grab a litter picker, get outdoors and show some love for Wales this spring.”
Want to take part in Spring Clean Cymru but aren’t able to attend?
Keep Wales Tidy has now developed Caru Cymru Litter Picking Hubs where residents can borrow everything they need for free. Their growing network of hubs offer all the equipment you need to carry out a safe clean-up. This includes litter pickers, hi-vis vests, rubbish bags and hoops (essential for keeping your bags open in breezy conditions).
