Successful Local Business, Acorns Bakery, supported with funding from CCBC’s Enterprise Fund and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund
Posted on : 17 Mar 2023
Acorns Bakery has been in business for over 20 years and moved to Caerphilly in 2020 after originally being based in Newport.
The bakery provides food wholesalers and hospitality businesses with fresh baked goods and has secured contracts to supply Wimbledon, The Grand National and Cheltenham races, which alone orders over 16,000 scones per event.
As Acorns Bakery grew and became more successful, the growing demand led owner Patrick Peachey to get in touch with Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Business Enterprise Renewal Team in April 2022 to seek support. He asked Investment Support Officers, Sally Harvey and Lauren James, if there was any help available to replace the existing ovens and freezer with newer models that were able to cook and store extra baked goods.
After been given some advice by the team, Acorns Bakery applied for CCBC’s Caerphilly Enterprise Fund and were awarded a grant of £10,000 to support the growing business. These purchases not only allowed the company to flourish, but safeguarded their 3 employees in Caerphilly and created an additional job.
In September 2022, Acorns Bakery contacted Sally and Lauren again to see if there was any further support to be able to move forward with necessary flooring works. They received £4664 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This grant was dedicated towards Acorns Bakery through Caerphilly County Borough Council’s intervention of UKSPF funds, and allowed the bakery to lay a new floor that was imperative in achieving the accreditation needed to secure larger wholesale contracts.
Patrick Peachey, owner of Acorns Bakery, said, ‘’I am grateful for all the support Caerphilly Council has given me. Lauren and Sally have been great in helping me to develop my business further.”
Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration & Climate Change, commented “It’s great to see how this business has grown since moving to Caerphilly. We’ve been delighted to support Acorns Bakery with £10,000 to replace the ovens and freezer. The business has become an essential part of the supply chain in this industry, helping to support other local businesses in Caerphilly Borough and beyond.”
