Caerphilly County Borough Council Cabinet agree new recycling service for commercial properties

In a Cabinet meeting which took place on Wednesday 20th March 2024, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet agreed the details for a new recycling service for commercial properties, in line with Welsh Governments Workplace Recycling Regulation.

From 6 April 2024, it will become law for all businesses, charities and public sector organisations in Wales to sort their waste for recycling. This will mean that food, paper and card, glass, metal, plastic and cartons, unsold textiles and unsold small waste electrical and electronic equipment will need to be separated for collection, no longer placed in the residual (refuse) bin and also collected separately.

The Welsh Government is introducing this law to improve the quality and quantity of recyclable materials.
Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure and Green Spaces said: “We currently offer our commercial waste customers a very similar service that we offer households in CCBC, whereby we collect refuse, mixed dry recycling and food waste. The new regulations being introduced by Welsh Government will mean that our current method of collecting mixed dry recyclables will not be compliant with the new law as the law will require businesses to separate their recyclables and collection systems must also keep the materials separate.

“Our Waste and Recycling Team will now be contacting all current CCBC commercial waste customers to ensure that they are aware and ready for the changes.
