Penallta Reuse Shop launches urgent toy appeal for families in need this Christmas
Posted on : 30 Nov 2022
Penallta Reuse Shop and Wastesavers have launched an urgent appeal, asking residents to donate used and unwanted toys on the lead up to Christmas.
Penallta Reuse Shop was launched in partnership with South Wales based Charity, Wastesavers earlier this year. The shop aims to divert items from Household Waste and Recycling Centres and get them into the hands of those who need them for bargain prices.
Wastesavers currently have ten Reuse Shops in operation throughout South Wales and the used toy appeal will take place in all locations.
Donated toys will be used for the shop’s “fill a bag for £1” sale, which will take place on Saturday 3rd and Saturday 10th December. With all proceeds from the sale going to local charities.
Cllr. Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste said: “With families up and down the borough having to tighten their belts this winter, the “fill a bag for £1” sale will be a big help to many. Whereas the initiative will also prevent good quality toys being unnecessarily disposed of this year.
“We are appealing to anyone who is able to, to please donate. A used toy that your child has outgrown could make another child’s Christmas.”
Alun Harries, Charity Manager for the Wastesavers group said: “Our shops get inundated with toys after Christmas, so this year we want people to clear out early so those toys might find their way into a Christmas stocking.
“Our hope is that this sale will help local families feeling the cost of living crisis and help a small local charity at the same time”
Penallta Reuse Shop’s “fill a bag for £1” sale takes place on Saturday 3rd and Saturday 10th December. Customers who wish to shop the sale are asked to bring their own bag for life. The sale will include children’s booked, DVDs and toys.
Wastesavers is urging traders and e-bayers to not take advantage of the sale as the aim is to bring a little Christmas cheer to local children who may miss out.
To make a donation or shop the sale, visit Penallta Reuse Shop at: Penallta Industrial Estate, South Road, Hengoed, CF82 7ST. Open seven days a week, 9:30-4:30.
