Don’t lose your vote – Register now

Caerphilly County Borough Council is reminding residents to register to vote.
With local council elections taking place on the 5th of May 2022, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part.

There have recently been some changes to who can vote in our Local council elections. If you are a foreign citizen living in Wales you can now vote, it doesn’t matter where you are born.  Anyone who is aged 16+ on the 5th of May 2022 will also be entitled to vote in the Local council elections taking place that day.

Please ensure everyone that is eligible to vote is registered by completing your annual canvass and individual registration forms. Alternatively, you can register to vote on the GOV.UK website https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Dave Beecham Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Electoral Services Manager said, “It is important that we have the most up to date and accurate details for residents who are eligible to vote. The changes in eligibility make it an exciting opportunity for young voters and foreign citizens to now have their say on local matters which affect them.”

He continued, “It’s important to understand that not only is the information required by law, but that if you fail to register then you cannot vote in elections and you may find it difficult to get credit, phone contracts, a mortgage or even a bank account as the register is used by credit reference agencies.”
