Community Cooking Champion classes to launch in September
Posted on : 05 Sep 2022
As part of the Caerphilly Cares programme to tackle food poverty and insecurity, community cooking champion project will be launching today in Penallta House.
The launch has seen Cllr Sean Morgan (Leader of Caerphilly Council), Cllr Carol Andrews (Cabinet Member for Communities), Morrisons Community Champions and CCBC catering staff promote the community cooking champion project, with classes beginning at White Rose Centre in New Tredegar, September 20th.
The session will be delivered by volunteers from CCBC’s catering staff as part of our corporate volunteering scheme.
The initiative is being supported by Morrisons stores in the area, as part of their ongoing commitment to help reduce food poverty and insecurity.
Morrisons Community Champions from Rogerstone, Bargoed and Caerphilly will be supporting the project and supplying the ingredients for the duration of the course.
The course aims to teach residents how to cook and to provide them with recipe cards which will help encourage them to cook once the course is completed.
Cllr Carol Andrews, Cabinet Member for Communities commented, “It’s my hope that these sessions can ensure that everyone in the borough has the opportunity, ability and confidence to access and prepare a healthy diet for themselves and their families.
“Hopefully, whatever is learned in these sessions can be shared and passed on to others in each individual’s communities.”
