What are loose parts?

Loose parts can offer limitless play opportunities. They’re items that can be manipulated, moved, adapted, built and demolished by children at play.

A rich play environment offers children an opportunity to make a wide range of choices and shape their own play how they see fit.

Loose parts are used widely by children in play provision, schools and childcare settings. It is an excellent way to re-use materials as things children can play with and we encourage the use of loose parts as it sparks creativity and provides rich play experiences for children.
