Volunteering to improve rights of way
Our Rights of Way Team supports a team of regular volunteers and volunteer groups who help improve the rights of way network in their local area.
We provide tools, materials, training and leadership to help volunteers work safely and effectively. Their work is highly valued and offers great opportunities for personal development, community involvement and team working.
What can volunteers do?
Volunteers can be involved in a variety of ways:
- surveying the rights of way in a parish or area, noting the condition and any works required
- maintaining stiles and gates and keeping hedges trimmed
- attaching informative signs and installing waymark posts
- installing bridges and boardwalks
- cutting vegetation on a path.
What can you expect from us?
We will provide:
- first aid, tool and site safety training
- hand tools and other protective equipment, such as gloves, goggles and hi-visibility vests to use whilst carrying out work of a right of way
- support with training, practical tasks and rights of way information
- opportunities to meet and socialise with other volunteer groups.
