Improvements enhance Caerphilly’s ‘green gateway’

A ‘green gateway’ to Caerphilly town has been enhanced thanks to a partnership between Caerphilly County Borough Council and the local community.

The council successfully sought a grant from Valleys Regional Parks Discovery Gateway fund which has helped provide improvements at Dafydd Williams Park, which surrounds Caerphilly Castle.  These improvements have included removing old planting beds and tree stumps to offer visitors better views of the castle.  New wheelchair accessible picnic benches have also been installed, as well as an innovative solar bench for visitors to charge their mobile phones.

Visitors to Caerphilly town will also now be greeted on their arrival at Crescent Road car park with newly planted flower beds, thanks to a donation from JS Lee (Services) Ltd and support from the community group responsible for Caerphilly in Bloom.  New fencing has also been installed to clearly separate long and short stay sections of the car park.

Cllr Eluned Stenner, the council’s Cabinet Member responsible for Economy and Enterprise, said “As well as being a key economic hub within the borough, Caerphilly town is a much-loved tourist destination.  Dafydd Williams Park acts as a gateway to the town centre and majestic Caerphilly Castle; these improvements will enhance the experience for both local residents and visitors to the area. 

These improvements are just the start of exciting plans for Caerphilly town and the rest of the county borough, being delivered as part of the council’s ambitious Placeshaping Plan.”
