Caerphilly County Borough Council Celebrates Multiple Awards for Green Spaces
Caerphilly County Borough Council has once again been awarded for its commitment to maintaining green spaces across the county borough. The Green Flag Award celebrates the very best parks and green spaces in the UK, with eight of the county borough’s green spaces being awarded as a Green Flag destination in this year’s ceremony.

In addition to this remarkable achievement, sixteen other sites within the borough have been honoured with Keep Wales Tidy's Community Award. These accolades place Caerphilly County Borough in the top ranks, with the third most awards (24 in total) received by any local authority in Wales.

The Green Flag Award scheme, renowned for recognizing exceptionally maintained parks and green spaces worldwide, acknowledges the excellent visitor facilities and high environmental standards found in the awarded locations. This year's recognition is a testament to the dedication of the council, its staff, and volunteers who have consistently worked hard to maintain the highest standards in the green spaces.
The eight green spaces that have earned the prestigious Green Flag status are as follows:
  • Morgan Jones Park
  • Ystrad Mynach Park
  • Cwmcarn Forest Drive
  • Ty Penallta
  • Brithdir Cemetery
  • Waunfawr Park Crosskeys
  • Parc Cwm Darren
  • Parc Penallta

280 parks and green spaces across the country have received the prestigious Green Flag Award and Green Flag Community Award – from country parks and formal gardens, to allotments, woodlands and churchyards.

The Green Flag Award program in Wales, spearheaded by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, with the support of the Welsh Government, has played a significant role in encouraging the development and maintenance of green spaces for the community's benefit.

Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure & Green Spaces, commented:

"Here in Caerphilly County Borough, we have some fantastic parks and green spaces, and staff work incredibly hard to ensure that standards are maintained in these award-winning spaces. I'm absolutely delighted to see our eight Green Flag sites retaining their status for another year. I’m also equally delighted to see that 16 sites have received the Green Flag Community Award that recognises the commitment of volunteers across the county borough, who dedicate their own time to maintain these community assets.

“As a council we received the third most awards out of all local authorities in Wales, demonstrating our commitment to green spaces here in the county borough. Well done to all involved!”
