Autism Diagnosis
Getting an autism diagnosis requires a detailed assessment and involves a team of professionals. This is known as a diagnostic assessment.
Diagnosis in Children
If your child is under 5 years old and you are worried, it is important to speak to someone. You can speak to your GP, health visitor, another health professional and/or your education provider. For more information about the diagnostic pathway for under 5’s visit Integrated Support for Children with Additional Needs (ISCAN)
If your child is 5 years of age and over, your GP and/or school would be the first people to speak with about your worries. They will be able to talk to you about your worries and how a referral can be made. Watching the video below will offer you more information.
You may also hear about something called the SPACE and Wellbeing panel.
Diagnosis in Adults
If you are an adult and feel you may require a diagnosis or are caring for an adult then you can make a self-referral/community referral to the Integrated Autism Services.
The Integrated Autism Service has been set up jointly between Health and Social Care to provide diagnostic assessment for adults (sometimes jointly with other services), support and advice for adults with a diagnosis and those who support them (parents/carers/partners).
They run advice sessions which anyone can book to discuss anything related to Autism or to learn about their service.
