Meals on wheels

In 2014, the Welsh Local Authority Caters Association (LACA) awarded our meals on wheels team 'Meals Direct' the prestigious title of Specialist Catering team due to the essential lifeline service that is provided to many people who are housebound or disabled. We deliver around 125,000 meals a year, to help people maintain their independence and provide a regular check to ensure that all is well in the household.

Who can use the service?

Anyone can use the unsubsidised service at a cost of:

• Hot meal and dessert - £6.10
• Sandwich - £2.50
• Frozen meal - £6.10

Alternatively, you may be eligible to receive a subsidised service if there is clear evidence that:

• you are not able to prepare meals for yourself
• meals cannot be provided by anyone else
• there is a significant risk to you if regular meals are not provided 

The subsidised service costs are:

• Hot meal and dessert - £3.70
• Sandwich - £1.90
• Frozen meal - £3.70

Allergen information

Some of our products contain nuts and other allergens. Due to the way our products are handled, there is a risk that allergens could be present in any product.

How are the meals provided?

A fleet of purpose-built vans deliver hot or frozen meals, sandwiches or a mixture of the three, directly to your home. 

When does the service operate?

We deliver meals Monday to Friday between 11.00am and 2pm direct to your home or luncheon club. Frozen meals may be ordered for the weekends.

You can choose which days you would like your meals delivered but the time we deliver will be subject to our delivery timetable for your area.

Ordering a meal

If you require an unsubsidised meal or if you have been assessed by social services and are eligible for subsidised meals from Meals Direct, you can order a meal by calling 01443 864055. You can also email meals@caerphilly.gov.uk.

You can order your meals Monday to Thursday between 8.30am and 5pm and on a Friday 08:30 to 4pm.
