Festive glow at sheltered housing scheme
A council owned sheltered housing scheme in the Caerphilly county borough has a festive glow this year thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local community.

Woodland View in Wattsville has had a Christmas tree installed in its communal garden as a result of an appeal led by the Lower Sirhowy Valley Community Partnership.  Funding for the tree and lights was provided by the Capital Group, The Woodlands, Karl Jones Haulage, Lonsdale Vehicle Sales, Safe Haven Lodges, Victoria Motor Company and Moore’s Motor Repairs.

An event, hosted by local ward members Cllr Philippa Marsden and Cllr John Ridgewell, included a special visit from Santa, who switched on the Christmas lights, followed by carol singing from pupils at Cwmfelinfach and Ynysddu Primary Schools.

Cllr Lisa Phipps, Cabinet Member for Homes and Places at Caerphilly County Borough Council, who also attended the event said “I’d like to thank everyone involved in making the Christmas tree, lights and the event possible.  It’s been wonderful seeing the residents from Woodland View and the local community coming together at the event.”

Local ward member and the council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement, Cllr Philippa Marsden, added “As well as bringing some festive colour to residents at Woodland View, the tree welcomes people as they enter the village.  We were overwhelmed by the number of people who came along to the event and very grateful to the pupils who came along and performed for us.”

Cllr John Ridgewell, local ward member, commented “The installation of Christmas lights in Wattsville and neighbouring Cwmfelinfach have been made possible thanks to the dedication of residents and the generous support of local businesses.  We look forward to building upon this success in coming years.”
