Ystrad Mynach remains open for business as usual while essential works are carried out, which are due to commence from Monday 11th February.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Engineering Team has identified an essential need to replace/repair the culvert beneath Penallta Road following a routine inspection. As a result of this, a small section of Penallta Road will remain closed for approximately 10 weeks from Monday 11th February while the work is carried out.

The Council would like to reassure businesses, residents and visitors that pedestrian access will be maintained to all commercial and residential properties for the duration of the works, with Ystrad Mynach remaining open for business as usual.

To ensure that works are completed as safely and quickly as possible, an essential road closure will take place along a small section of road starting at Penallta  Road and ending at the intersection of Penallta Road, Bedwyllyn Road and Commercial Street for approximately 10 weeks. To accommodate local residents and businesses, the unaffected length of Penallta Road will remain open and temporarily converted to allow for two way traffic flow with an area designated for cars to turn around and exit.  Commercial Street will be converted to a one way traffic system from the Pierhead buildings to the Royal Oak roundabout for the duration of the works.

Some minor changes to local transport are also necessary:

  • Routes 7 and C16 to Nelson and route C17 to Bargoed – temporary bus stop outside Ystrad Mynach Library.

  • Central Café, Penallta Road bus stop – not in use.

  • The Royal Oak bus stop for buses towards Bargoed/Nelson – not in use.

  • Southbound routes will not be affected.

Cllr Sean Morgan, Deputy Leader said: “Ystrad Mynach will remain very much open for business as usual for the duration of these essential works, which are being carried out to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians. I would urge both residents and visitors to continue to support their local high street during this time”.

Any residents or businesses with an essential need for vehicle access (e.g. medical needs or deliveries) during this time are asked to email engineering@caerphilly.gov.uk or call 01443 866511 during normal working hours. For emergencies out of normal working hours please call 01495 235323.

Ystrad Mynach has a variety of independent retailers including coffee shops, a florist, a butcher, hardware store, jeweller and even a haberdasher, among many others and provides a friendly welcome to local residents and visitors to the town alike.
