An adventurous employee of Caerphilly County Borough Council is inviting others to take a walk on the wild side and explore the great outdoors.
Keen climber Ali Evans volunteers as Secretary for Caerphilly Adventure Group CAG, while working as Principal Safety Officer for the local authority.
She’s helping people trek over mountains, scale indoor climbing walls, camp in wild nature and even take part in fun paddle sessions at leisure centres. CAG provides opportunities for hill walking, canoeing and more.
Ali said: “We provide a range of outdoor activities, including a monthly climbing meet to the Summit Centre in Trelewis with our climbing volunteer coach. We also provide weekly paddle clubs, based at Newbridge Leisure Centre, as well as opportunities for outdoor paddling throughout the year.”
You can even learn some hardcore survival skills, starting with lighting fires in the wild.
Ali added: “We also run a monthly walking club and we cover varied routes, from the mountains of the Brecon Beacons to local routes within the borough. We also provide bushcraft opportunities, events where we encourage people to light fires and develop other survival skills as well.
“We are fortunate that we have a unique partnership with the authority, in that we are able to develop our volunteers’ expertise and skills.”
