Works planned for new pedestrian crossing at Pantside, Newbridge
Posted on : 21 May 2020
Caerphilly County Borough Council has announced plans to construct a new pedestrian crossing facility beneath the existing pedestrian footbridge linking Newbridge to Pantside.
The new facility will replace the temporary crossing put in place following significant damage caused to the footbridge by a lorry mounted crane. Due to the complexity of the claim, discussions are still ongoing between the council and insurance companies to replace the footbridge.
Until a resolution is reached on the bridge replacement the decision has been taken to construct a pedestrian crossing, offering a safer option to the temporary facility that’s currently in place. This is compliant with required design standards and legislative requirements.
The work will begin on Tuesday 26th May and are expected to last 6 to 8 weeks. The new signal-controlled crossing will include a refuge island with two independent crossing facilities and comply with accessibility guidelines for vulnerable users.
The council understands the impact that these construction works will have on both traffic flows and pedestrians and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused but politely request you bear with us during these unprecedented times. Social distancing measures will be adhered to between the public and workforce.
