Coronavirus - Registration of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships

The Prime Minister addressed the UK on 23/03/2020, outlining further measures that are required to continue to manage the current coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, that require people to stay at home, except for very limited purposes.

He is also stopping all public gatherings of more than two people. In addition, the Government is stopping social events, including weddings, baptisms and other religious ceremonies. This will exclude funerals, which can be attended by immediate family

Alternative arrangements will be made for services provided by the Caerphilly County Borough Registrars Service.

Death and still birth registration

Death and still birth registration will take priority. However, changes will be made to usual procedures. Please contact the register office as detailed below to be advised on procedures. Do not attend the register office before speaking to the registrars.

Please Note: Access to the Register Office will be strictly controlled. The main entrance to Penallta House is closed but the register office is open. If you have been given an appointment to attend the Register Office during this period, please use the ceremony room entrance which is located on the right-hand side of the building. There is a car park alongside the entrance

Marriages and Civil Partnerships

Instruction from government is that no weddings can take place until further notice. This means that some marriage and civil partnership registrations and ceremonies will have to be postponed and re-arranged.

No notices of marriage or civil partnership will take place at least until after this current period of pandemic measures.

Birth Registration

Birth registration appointments are now deferred until we are through the current pandemic period.

Customers are advised that they can now make a claim for child benefit or universal credit prior to the birth being registered. .

Cemeteries closed

Caerphilly county borough council has closed all its municipal cemeteries across the area with immediate effect. Unfortunately, large numbers of people (many of whom fall into the vulnerable category) continue to attend the sites despite the new restrictions announced by the Prime Minister. The sites will only open for planned interments for the foreseeable future.
