Welsh in English Medium Schools
Everyone learns Welsh
In the foundation Phase Welsh all pupils learn Welsh. The emphasis is on using the language with purpose and in meaningful situation. Also, the incidental use of the language s encouraged during the school day.
At Key Stage 2, the language oral skills are further developed. There is more attention on teaching, reading and writing skills.
At Key Stages 3 and 4 all pupils learn Welsh. Schools offer pupils to continue their Welsh studies in the 16+ and “A” level examinations.
Welsh is a mandatory part of the Curriculum for Wales. All children learn Welsh in an English-medium school.
The ambition is that everyone learning in Wales is able to enjoy using Welsh. We want children to make continuous progress in learning Welsh. We want children to have confidence and language skills so they can use Welsh outside school.
Siarter Iaith is for everyone in the school community. Learners, parents and carers, school council, governors, workforce, and the wider community. Siarter Iaith scheme is for Welsh medium schools. Cymraeg Campus is for English medium schools.
