Caerphilly Celebrates Foster Carers
Posted on : 19 May 2021
Over the past week we have been celebrating Foster Care Fortnight (FCF) with a digital campaign to recognise the amazing community of Foster Carers that support our most vulnerable residents.
In addition to the digital campaign launched on social media, the Foster Caerphilly staff hit the streets to surprise carers with stunning bouquets of flowers. They also launched their Wellbeing walks, and come rain or shine they have organised an led the group walks in picturesque locations across the county including Cwmcarn Forest, Parc Cwm Darren and around Caerphilly Castle.
The focus of this year’s FCF campaign is Why We Care, with a particular focus on men who care, this theme helps us raise the profile of the diversity we have in our care network, one that continues to evolve and grow. With the theme in mind, local authorities in Gwent joined together to host a Regional Men Who Care Wellbeing Walk at Pontypool Park, in Torfaen. The walk saw representatives from each LA attend on Saturday 15th May.
The Celtic Manor Resort have also supported the campaign, by hosting two free rounds of golf to Gwent’s local authority foster carers, which saw carers across Gwent take the opportunity to relax and network with fellow carers.
The finale of the campaign will see the iconic Blackwood Miners’ Institute in Blackwood join buildings across Wales to light up in orange in support of Foster Care fortnight as a gesture of our thanks to these special individuals and their families.
Cllr. Shayne Cook, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Foster Care said, “The Foster Care team work tirelessly to support carers and children and work proactively to grow the team to ensure we have sufficient local authority carers to ensure children are able to remain in the local community they are familiar with. I am so proud of everything they strive to achieve and the team continues to go from strength to strength.
He continued, “We have already welcomed on board 11 new carers this year and we continue to improve the training and support packages we can offer those who become a vital part of our care network. I want to extend a massive thank you to everyone in the Fostering Team and the carers.”
